Public Swimming Pools
The Environmental Health Division reviews construction plans and issues permits for public and semi-public pools in Calvert County. The Division also conducts routine and follow-up inspections during the operating season.
Anyone operating a public or semi-public pool in the State of Maryland is required to have certified operator to duty while the pool is in operation. Information on how to obtain a pool operator’s certification can be obtained by contacting the Division of Environmental Health at 410-535-3922 or contacting the College of Southern Maryland.

A permit is required to operate a public or semi public pool/spa in Calvert County and the current fee is $290.00 for Seasonal (May through September Operation), $570.00 for Annual.
There is a $25 fee for the processing of this application and the issuance of a pool operator card. The pool operator card is valid for three years unless suspended or revoked by the Calvert County Health Department. A copy of your previous certification card issued by the Health Department or a copy of the approved pool operator course completion certificate is required for processing of this application.
The applicant acknowledges that, by certification as a pool operator, the applicant is required to ensure that the pool operated is in compliance with COMAR 10.17.01. Previously certified applicants that have not attended an approved refresher course and applicants with pool operator course attendance greater than 6 months from the date of application are required to complete and pass the pool operator challenge exam issued by the Health Department.
