Introduction to the Pandemic Flu Plan

The following is the Calvert County Health Department’s Plan for Pandemic Flu. The plan was updated using comments and suggestions from the town hall meeting of February 2, 2008. An important concept from that meeting is that citizens need to prepare for pandemic flu to protect themselves, their loved ones and their community.

We must face the reality that county resources will be limited due to illness of workers. For the same reason, business services will also be limited. Access to medical care will be difficult; people will be expected to care for illness at home.

In order to plan ahead, citizens need to contact, communicate and plan with their neighbors and community associations. Citizens may also get involved now by contacting volunteer organizations, e.g. Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT), church groups, professional volunteer organizations, etc. Businesses should also plan and discuss their plans with employees.

Every Calvert resident can make a difference within the community. By planning ahead, the damaging effects of pandemic flu will be greatly reduced. Calvert County Health Department will continue to plan and update guidelines for the pandemic flu.
